Springtime Peter Rabbit Party for Beau + Easy Easter Decor

We celebrated our youngest, Beau, turning one in early March with a Peter Rabbit themed birthday party.  With Easter being right around the corner I thought it would be the perfect time to share it with you!  Initially I hadn’t planned on using the party décor as my Easter décor as Easter was still a couple months away. I was excited when I realized that many of the party decorations could double as my Easter décor and believe me… I’ve NEVER been two months early to anything! I have always loved Peter Rabbit and it made it even more fun that my three year old was really into it too (thanks to the Peter Rabbit movie which is adorable if you haven’t seen it yet)!  As a mom of two boys I know my time is limited to have “sweet” party themes before they start having opinions so Peter Rabbit it was!

My husband and I both had Beatrix Potter dishes that our moms had kept since we were babies so I was excited to incorporate those.

On our dining room buffet I used a vintage enamel tray to display the invite and an old chippy metal caddy to hold the succulent party favors. I found these itty bitty succulents in packs of four at Lowe’s and thought they looked like tiny cabbages. The “1” flags were made with Rock Candy Sticks from Michael’s, scrap cardstock, and a rubber stamp. I used a rotary cutter to cut two small slits on the left side of the paper and slid the sticks through.

When I first decided on the Peter Rabbit theme, I knew I wanted to use real plants such as ornamental cabbages, etc. I was at Canton First Monday which is a large monthly tradesday in East Texas in early February and saw the prettiest ornamental kale plants that were all really great prices. I love plants but I don’t exactly have a green thumb so the challenge was keeping them alive and looking nice for a month until the party. They ended up being extremely low maintenance and loved the chilly weather we had in February and March. They are actually still alive and just starting to look a little sad with the weather turning warm this week. I used them to make a few arrangements in various galvanized containers and terra cotta pots for that garden-y look. I just happened to stumble across these cork backed vegetable placemats on major clearance at Target and am using those for Easter as well. These are available online for $3.49 but I grabbed mine for $1.49 each at my local Target so it may be worth checking!

This was my old Jenny Lind high chair that my oldest son, Luke also ate his first birthday cake on a couple years ago. I’m as sentimental as they come and love incorporating old family pieces or pieces with a story into décor and everyday use. For the greenery I took two stems of silver dollar eucalyptus facing opposite directions and tied them together with a piece of twine. I used a small command hook on the front middle of the tray to hang it from.

I can’t take the credit for this little carrot display on our island. I had all of these sweet little carrots left over and my dad suggested I find something to stick them in. I used an old wooden crate, (crates are so versatile, I use them all the time) filled it with packing peanuts, and covered the top with a layer of moss that I had on hand. The carrots are picks from the floral department at Michael’s and I just stuck them down through the moss alternating the large and small ones. After the party, I took down the Peter Rabbit plush and board book and plan to leave the carrot crate up for Easter (below).

How cute is this little carrot garland (also from Michael’s)? I strung it across the front of our mantle and at the time still hadn’t decided on how to display Beau’s monthly pictures. There is quite a bit of space between the carrot bunches so I grabbed some clothespins and hung the photos in the spaces. I’m planning to replace the photos with letter cards that spell out “H-A-P-P-Y E-A-S-T-E-R”.

This was the food table that also doubled as a little photo shoot area with the birthday boy. For the table covering, I went to Lowe’s planning to get some of the green outdoor carpet that you can buy by the foot in the back of the store but ended up finding this green outdoor rug that was cheaper and better quality. It is a great piece that can be used over and over again. For the picket fence I found this cedar fencing that came in a roll in the garden center. I cut off the length I needed with wire cutters and spray painted it white. I used the same silver dollar eucalyptus (Trader Joe’s is a great source for inexpensive fresh flowers and greenery) and stuck it down through the wire on the fencing so the backdrop would look like vines were growing on it. The carrot garland is the same as what I hung on the mantle above.

For the smash cake, I ordered a plain white iced cake from Sam’s and topped it with a vintage Peter Rabbit figurine I bought on eBay and a vintage “1” stencil I picked up from an antique shop in Waco.

I used the little wheelbarrows from Hobby Lobby pictured above to hold signs for the food and stuck decorative radishes in them that I picked up at The Little Shop on Bosque (the Magnolia Warehouse Shop) in Waco. My friend of Monroe and Co. put together the little sandwiches. She wrapped them in brown parchment and tied them up with blue twine.

This is the cedar fencing from Lowe’s I mentioned earlier and the spray paint I used.

These are photos I took with the backdrop a couple days after the party. It was a much sunnier day and the lighting was so much better than the day of the party.

Thanks so much for letting me share our little man’s Peter Rabbit party with you! I hope you got some ideas for a party of your own or simply some spring or Easter décor!
